It’s time to visit that travel bucket list and see which destination is next. Before you rush to buy the tickets know that not all the countries are completely safe for tourists. As much as you would like to visit all the world, some regions and countries are at war and some are struggling. This means that visiting them should be postponed until further notice. There are also some tourist destinations that dangerous and they’re not in poor countries or conflict areas. Just dangerous! Often times, big cities like New York can be pretty dangerous, so we did a little digging and found out what tourist destinations are dangerous from all over the world. Keep in mind that some people still visit these destinations and have great experiences! Because no place is off-limits and some of them are indeed insanely beautiful. So let’s see what you need to know and look out for when traveling in some of the most dangerous tourist destinations in the world. Number 1: Volcano tours, Hawaii The famous Hawaiian archipelago is on everyone’s bucket list for sure. Each island offers a great variety of palm trees, pristine beaches, tropical fruits, and amazing sunsets. It all sounds idyllic, but hiking on an active volcano, a very popular activity in Hawaii, is not that safe. Many people have died on these hikes or returning from the hikes due to the lava haze and other extreme conditions. Another threat in Hawaii is volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, earthquakes or tsunamis. It does look like heaven on earth, but if you’re not careful it can quickly become hell, especially since lots of activities on the island are pretty risky. Number 2: Death Road, Bolivia When you see pictures of Death Road from Bolivia you’ll understand why 300 people die each year visiting it. Few roads came close to being as extreme as this one or as famous. It’s a 69 km old road that is now exclusively used by cyclists because there are no way cars and bicycles can safely share it. Coming down the road will lead you through fog, rain, landslides and 600 meters free falls. Until 2006 the road was the only route between La Paz and Coroico. Nowadays, cars have another route and the Death Road is used for cyclists and tourists only. It used to be the most dangerous road in the world. Number 3: Mount Everest, Nepal Being the highest mountain in the world, Everest is the ultimate peak hikers and mountain lovers want to climb. Unfortunately, since it’s so high, over 8800 meters, the weather conditions are extremely harsh and unpredictable. Over 300 people have died climbing the mountain and although there are many warnings about how experienced one needs to be before the climb, hundreds of people still believe they are stronger than nature. With those numbers in mind and climate change too, tourism in the area is still rising, making it one of the most dangerous destinations in the world. Number 4: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Brazil has some of the most dangerous cities in the world and yet people are still eager to visit the country. Crime rates, violence, and muggings are very common in some areas of Rio de Janeiro, including some beaches. Rio de Janeiro is a huge city where police and drug lords get shot on the streets. It’s no wonder it has been named several times as one of the most dangerous cities in the world. The only problem is that is also one of the most beautiful cities and cultures in the world and there seems to be no middle ground to mend the situation. Number 5: Darvas gas crater, Turkmenistan This unique destination is also called “The Door to Hell” and for a good reason. It’s actually a natural gas field collapsed into an underground cavern. Scientists intentionally set it on fire back in 1971 so that the methane bubble won’t spread uncontrollably and implode. Since then, the crater has been burning non-stop and people now visit the site to take one of a kind selfies and see with their eyes the burning flames. Although the crater is almost abandoned, people camp around it and fly above it, in spite of the obvious danger. Whatsmore, there are few other places like this in the region. Number 6: Chernobyl, Ukraine In the light of the latest successful tv series Chernobyl, Ukraine is now seeing a rise in tourism, especially in the area where the nuclear plant is located. Although it’s been more than 30 years since the incident, only organized tours for a limited period of time are allowed in the area since it opened for the public. Keep in mind that aside from small doses of radiation from Chernobyl tours, the eastern part of Ukraine is at war which makes the country unstable and dangerous for tourists. Make sure to have travel insurance to avoid unpleasant situations. Number 7: Elephant Kingdom, Thailand We all dream of staying a month or two in southeast Asia, more specifically in Thailand. The country offers amazing sites and tropical resorts, topped with amazing experiences such as elephant sanctuaries and crocodile farms. Yes, you’ve heard it: feeding crocodiles up close and personal. It’s one of the world’s scariest attractions that has been shut down several times due to safety concerns. They were using an improvised rack with plastic barrels supporting it to keep people in an open cage in the middle of the pond with hungry crocodiles around them. Chinese tourists were the biggest fans of this odd and dangerous attraction. Surprisingly! No casualties were reported. Still, would you do it? Number 8: Tataouine, Tunisia Another city with increased tourism from Hollywood is Tataouine, Tunisia, a city located in the desert made as a set for the Star Wars. The movie was shot in various locations of the city as well as other places and they even named Luke Skywalker’s planet after it, Tatooine. Nowadays some of the filming locations are abandoned and many tourists that wander around are at risk of being robbed or attacked. Even worse, some of the locations are used as home bases for Isis groups that want to cross the border into Libya. The bottom line, if you want to visit the filming sets make sure to get a safe tour with a guide. Number 9: Cape Town, South Africa Since we’re on the African continent, there is a famous destination for surfers and beach lovers that is actually among the most dangerous destinations in the world for various reasons. We’re talking about Cape Town, South Africa, an amazing city and holiday destination for some people. If you plan on visiting the city, know that you will need to be very careful in what neighborhood you stay, in what waters you swim in and what you drink. The city is well known for gang violence, assaults, fake police and HIV. They’ve dealt with a severe water crisis in 2018, so that might be an inconvenience too if you visit in the summer. Number 10: America’s National Parks Nature lovers will most probably want to adventure in America’s National Parks at least once in a lifetime. Yellowstone, Yosemite are some of the most beautiful parks but also some of the most dangerous. Millions of people visit them each year and some of them, unfortunately, die there. These raw natural environments are home to grizzly bears, unpredictable floods, extreme heat or free falls from high rocks. As beautiful as they are, some remote parts of the parks are very hostile and only experienced hikers are allowed. Grand Canyon is one place where people 6 people die each week. Take all safety measures when visiting. And Aluxers, if you feel like knowing more about this amazing country and the richest people that live there? Head over to our video about the richest families in the world to see how many of them are from America. Just click on the right top corner to watch it. Number 11: Tijuana, Mexico For many Americans, a holiday or a wedding in Mexico is the ultimate getaway. If you don’t research enough the area you’re going to stay in, some ugly encounters can happen. Tijuana is the party city where millions of students go for spring breaks and holidays, but it’s not that safe. Along with other cities like Acapulco, Tijuana is extremely dangerous, not only for lonely travelers or women. There is drug violence, kidnapping, robbery, and many other crimes that can happen after sunset. There are police all over the place, giving the feeling that something bad can happen at any time. Try to go in areas such as Tulum or Cabo San Lucas. Number 12: Kenya Since tourism is increasing in Africa due to its raw landscapes, safaris and beautiful beaches, more people are at risk of being caught up in the civil wars and conflict areas of the region. You’d think that Kenya is among the countries that seem to be pretty safe and stable. Tourism in the country has been rising but at a cost. Since it’s surrounded by Somalia and Sudan, danger, bombings and terrorist attacks can happen all of a sudden, especially in tourist areas, hotels, and public transportation. It’s a pity, thinking that the country can offer amazing tours, untouched beaches and exotic holidays. Number 13: Egypt In the northern part of the African continent, most countries are in the middle of a conflict, even Egypt. Over 14 million people visit the country each year to admire the pyramids and the reliques of the old civilizations. Most parts of Egypt, especially Cairo are safe for tourists, but the eastern part near the border with Israel and Gaza strip things can get a little dangerous. The border in the west with Libya should be avoided too. In fact, some agencies don’t offer tours to Egypt anymore until things loosen up, so it’s up to you if you to decide whether to go or not. Number 14: North Korea Most destinations we presented here are dangerous due to civil war, crime rate, and natural disasters. North Korea is a dangerous destination for a very different reason: communism and censure. The biggest threat people face when visiting this country is prison, if some rules for tourists are broken in any way. Taking pictures, adventuring alone, talking with people or trying to showcase a different portrait of the country will get you in prison. If that happens, only the president, the embassy or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can help you get out. And since they have almost zero connections with any country, chances are low. Number 15: The Philippines When you hear people talking about their southeast Asia trips they all talk about Bali, Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia. But there are many other beautiful countries in the area such as Myanmar or the Philippines. Why are these 2 less popular? Because they are more dangerous. The Philippines has had some bad things happening in the last few years, including kidnappings, assault and terrorism attacks. A few islands and cities should be avoided as well as poor neighborhoods or remote areas. These are some of the reasons the Philippines are not popular in tourism circles. Well Aluxers, this sums up the tourist destinations which are definitely riskier than most If you step back and take a bigger look, there are so many countries that are safe to visit and out of all 195 countries, only a few are dangerous. With that being said, where would you go if money wasn’t a problem? Bora Bora? New Zealand? Let us know in the comments below your dreamy travel destination. And of course for sticking with us until the end, here’s your bonus location. Number 16: The Maldives This tourist destination is not necessarily violent or dangerous, but if you don’t visit it as soon as possible the islands will sink. Yes, The Maldives are sinking due to climate change and the growth of sea levels. In less than 30 years we won’t have these beautiful islands with crystal blue waters, white sands, and amazing resorts anymore, since they will be submerged under the water. Other than that, the only danger in the Maldives is in your budget, but we strongly recommend you to visit it. Even their president knows the islands will sink and has urged people to visit them while they can. Thank you for spending some time with us Aluxers! 2. I am Kenyan and I would love to respectfully disagree with the research done especially on the African countries. (The HIV in SA raised my brows but the SAs will talk on their bit).

I agree Kenya is surrounded by Somalia and Sudan. They bring one or two issues in the country because our army is in their countries fighting for peace for their citizens and they want our troops out of their countries.
It is not any different from what US does and neither is it different from London or Paris terror attacks which happens once in blue moon. Would that make London, Paris or US dangerous places for tourist destination? I guess not. Their Intel just like ours work round the clock to keep the country safe. They might be first world and we a developing nation, but they give their best despite the challenges.

Kenya is safe, and have you been here? I guess so. If not try it out. As we Kenyans say, 'Vitu kwa grao ni tofauti' meaning things on the ground are so different, come see and let's hear about 15 things you did not know about Kenya and its people.

You have a huge following and many people like me in my early 20s look up to this channel for the content and agree with your work but about countries, I am not so sure. We all make mistakes, some might be costly but there is room for improvement. Thanks.

  3. The problem with you people from America and Europe is that when you talk about Africa, you make sure that you show the pictures of the poorest villages in Africa, you never talk about the beautiful cities that we have in Africa. For that reason, im gonna dislike this video those pictures you showed us when you were talking about Kenya, was it necessary mara? please take us serious

  4. Wrong video Nigeria should be number 1..A country were the current president M. BUHARI is the Boss and sponsor of 2 terrorist groups. Boko Haram and Fulani Herdsmen..Buhari released over 300 Boko haram prisoners back to the society with huge sum of money to continue their evil job. Killing Christians.

  5. Can you catch
    And want to die
    Than go to
And rest of the middle east
    Their killing each other
    Ha ha
    You will definitely
    They are complete idiots

  6. Sure they are dangerous but totally awesome places. I love hawaii. Heres another video that makes our planet a wonderful place. its the top islands in asia, amazing place but not dangerous for sure. Check this out https://youtu.be/OLk1Lr1Nkt8

  7. The Philippines is a dangerous place? This is a joke. The only dangerous part of our country is in the autonomous region of muslim mindanao because of war and terrorism. And that part of the region is in the most southern part of our country. Besides that, our country is very peaceful and friendly. We have 7,641 islands. Do your research Alux.

  8. What does HIV statistics have to do with the dangers of visiting Cape Town?

Such an ignorant point to raise! It's not like you just get HIV from landing here?!?! 🙄😠

Please review the ignorant condescending BS you going to narate with before posting.

  9. The only thing I find dangerous about Tijuana are the taxi drivers who drive fast. San Francisco or Los Angeles are 2 cities more dangerous than TJ!!!

  10. 3:51 happens most in the North and West Zone, (complexo da Maré, complexo do Alemão, Jacarézinho etx) don't ever go to these places

  11. I dont think the philippines is the most dangerous travel destination in the world.

She said beacuse of the povr neighborhood . But hey poverty is everywhere
She said because of the crime or terrorism? Sorry to burst your bubble but crimes or terrorism exist in some place.

There are lots of foreign people visited the philippine and WILL VISIT PHILIPPINES because they love the atractions. The tourist destinations the food. The affordability and most specially they love the people the CHARACTER the filipino hospitality the customs and traditions

Even Bill Gates visited the beautiful island of the philippines

President duterte is doing his very best to make the philippines mare beautiful and safe country to visit.

I don’t think this is a fair judgement

  12. 3:52
If you want a tour in a Favela go to Vidigal, drug dealers there a cool (with tourists)… They even let you take a picture with their AK-47 (some of them)

Don't ever do this in other Favelas

  13. Damn this moves up my timetable lol – I was literally thinking if money wasn't a problem I would go to the Maldives when they show in the video lol. Oh well sounds like I will have to plan to see them sooner than I expected – anybody here been there yet? is it several hundred USD to get from island to island?

  14. I like your videos Alux and I've watched most of it… but then, yeah, I guess danger is everywhere…and this video is more on a negative criticism of these countries and it's really bad… even people in the US are not law-abiding citizens and have a lot of homeless people who are doing crimes.. HIV on the other hand, depends on a person if he or she is not careful enough being a tourist.. and why did u not include anything about China? that's a more dangerous country with smugglers, fake foods etc. etc…. they even kidnapped people in Asia (in general) to harvest their organs and sell it in the black market especially to the western countries.. some countries like Taiwan even have movements or organization against this issue…

  15. As a day one Aluxer, I am saddened to see Kenya on the list, that's my home country, and it has been a while now since terrorists attacked the country. Civilian war? Never heard of it, the last conflict was more than a decade ago due to politics. The truth is, as long as there are humans, there are those who do bad things, attacks happen everywhere, gun violence, robberies, and terrorism is a global threat (domestic or international). I live and work in the Tourism industry in Kenya, and I can tell you for sure that every day I wake up I am not bothered by insecurity.
Alux stands for truth, and the truth is terrorism hurts tourism. Good day.

  16. I though Philippines is not included. You just feel unsafe and uneasy holding your phone and valuable in the public. Plus there is this government-sponsored mafia that kills the innocent and poor even in daytime. Thanks to the current president, this country is not really safe.

  17. Fuck u for saying bullshit about South Africa what do you mean HIV ? Tell me where there is no HiV today fuck you ncxaaaa

  18. well done! I agree with all that was said. Well researched & even got the pronunciation right for Hawaii. Luvs it!

  19. Shallow thinking…..what makes you think because a country is poor is dangerous? My country Kenya is poor but U.S has more crime than my own country and bombing does not happen anyhow. @alux consider travelling

  20. Too many dangerous areas of the world to list in a single video. Just about everywhere on Earth is plenty safe enough if you've got financial independence and throw money nonstop at your problems for bribing works wonders. Many times, bribes are not large amounts, but can be $10 or $100 US dollar bills. Have a fake police encounter in the Angkor Wat temples? Just give him $10 and he'll even sell you his rank and insignia. It's no surprise America has the world's richest people, but also many of the poorest for it's the land of greed and coddling the wealthy at the great expense of many. Well, it's actually the way of the world. I wish we could all go against the system and constantly yell, "Fuck Your Money!"

  21. Sad to see Cape Town on the list, but true when visiting the wrong areas.
It still remain our most beautiful city when keeping to the normal tourist areas.
    A proud South African

  22. Israel should be on the top of your list, most of non Jews visiting are Checked thoroughly to identify if they sympathize with the Palestinians, forced to open their mobiles and laptops to search if they have any post on their social media hinting to that notion.
If any thing is found not only you can be humiliated, forbidden from entry, but mainly jailed for some time before deporting you …and yes all that is backed by 70 discriminating laws that make Israel the Only existing apartheid state on earth.

  23. Can you please do a video on 10 places to do Mind Mastery Meditation Program? I feel uncomfortable when you're not plugging an expensive cash grab product.

  24. It's disappointing to see the Philippines in this list for the reasons mentioned. And take note of the picture, the street children which is very much present in other South East Asian countries. Boo!!!

  25. Alux, on the topic of travel, can you tell us about the most expensive/cheapest or most quality private jets or how to purchase one? Thanks Alux!

  26. O snap my town made it on the list and I'm not surprised. We have between 40 and 50 murders per weekend. But I have to admit the view from Table Mountain of Cape Town is amazing.

  27. In my opinion , i would say all different countries are dangerous .
Dont tell me 100% no crime happens in each country ?
If you are a traveler be smart and safety first .

  28. I'm from Acapulco, and you were very kind at least with Tijuana, and Acapulco for not including it.. it's really really bad down there

  29. Cape Town is safe just as long as you dont get drunk in Long Street! It's a beautiful diverse city, you'll love it and kwikspar is like home just remember to manually pay electricy haha

  30. I will go to the Philippines someday. Yes I will avoid some areas, but I know it is a beautiful country to visit, with beautiful people.

  31. Ok… Wtf with the shit said about Tijuana? Border cities are always rated as dangerous, but let me tell you that Acapulco and the center/south of Mexico is much worse. I have traveled to Mexico City, and south Mexico, and I live in TJ. Not gonna say Tijuana is paradise but I do feel safer there than in other cities where I can't even use my phone in public or be anxious 24/7 about being robbed in the street or on public transport.
    Tijuana is pretty cool Alux;)

  32. Hello Alux representatives. I wish to inform you and the rest of the viewers that pinpointing Tijuana, Mexico as a dangerous city is misleading, the advantage this city has is sharing its border with San Diego county. Tijuana is a dynamic city that is indeed a wonderful place to enjoy and break free from routine. As any other city in the planet, as long as you observe common sense, good manners and do not try to make crazy stuff (get drunk or use drugs), actually is quite fun and especially safe. Fine dining and good entertainment even high quality medical care abound. Even strolling in the so called downtown and various markets such as Hidalgo can be a delight. Besides recommending Los Cabos and Tulum it is biased and offensive, they are not match in anyway possible by far to Tijuana and overall Baja California.

  33. Cool Alux Tijuana is unsafe and you want me to go to Cabo which actually has a higher murder rate then Tijuana great

  34. I'm from South Africa and yeah this country can be shit sometimes but saying Cape Town is dangerous is like saying L.A is dangerous for tourists because of Compton
