Goan Mackeral Fish Curry with Sichuan Peppercorn|Chapora. | Original Recipe- My signature dish

Hello Lets cook Mackerel curry with Chapora 2 -4 Mackerel required , 8-9 chapora other ingredients required: To grind: half fresh coconut (desiccated coconut 50 g) coriander seeds 1 and half Tbs, cumin seeds 3/4 Tbs, garlic ginger 40 g red chillies 3-4 1 Onion to fry with oil also water, turmeric powder, salt to taste grind tamrind 40 g with the above ingrdients cut and clean the Mackerel wash them, drain and apply salt and keep for 10 minutes heat the pan add oil add chopped onion fry till golden brown add the ground fry for 3-4 minutes add turmeric powder mix well and fry for 1-2 minutes add water as required, keep the gravy as thick as you can salt is added cover the lid and bring to boil crush the Chapora with the heavy object add to the curry cook for 2-3 minutes add the mackerel cover the lid and bring to boil I had to replaced the large pan to medium sized pan check for the taste adding salt make sure the mackerels are cooked properly Ready to serve Enjoy

  2. Ami Bardez-an "teflam" muntão, nim chapora. These berries are also known as 'tephal' or 'acrid lime' or 'tirphal' or 'tephal' and related are to Sichuan peppercorn.

  3. What makes this dish special?

    This spice is also known as Teppal or Tirphal (similar to Sichuan Pepper or Chinese pepper) and is used in some dishes of Goa like Teppal Chutney, tavashe (cucumber) hulel etc. This spice in known as limao arcado (acrid lime) by the Portuguese.

    Note: . Do not eat this whole spice as it renders your mouth numb. Use limited quantity of this spice. Do not grind it into a paste – but pound it lightly and use it to make curries or gravies.
