Hi
Hello Good morning! We are in front of the Mersey Ferries’ office We are here to go on a nature cum sea bird watching cruise organised by the RSPB Tickets are available here People are queuing up to get on to the ferry The ferry trip is one of the famous attractions here A Sunday morning cruise People are all ready to board I shall stand here River Mersey is flowing by the side The water levels aren’t too high – it looks like low tide tide now Our ferry is fast approaching We are about to board the ferry It has docked here It is a fairly big queue They say that skuas, peregrine, osprey’s etc are some of the birds that are likely to be seen So, we’ve reached the ferry This is the first time I am boarding a ferry from here I hope it will be a good experience It is awesome That’s the Royal Liver Building People are still boarding the ferry Let me find a seat somewhere before it is too crowded We are now aboard the ferry People have equipped themselves with binoculars and camera Faces are full of expectations There are seats for people to travel comfortably Many are seated Another important thing to mention is that the experts from RSPB are also here They will tell us about the sightings and other highlights as the cruise starts It would be more or less like a running commentary So, we wont miss any important sightings we are still waiting The ferry should be on its way soon The cruise lasts for about 3 hours We will go along the River Mersey for some distance to reach the bay We will go almost until the Irish Sea before turning back In the meantime, we expect to see some of the birds we mentioned earlier We can see many people standing here and watching birds intently through their binoculars We have felt that most of the people have a basic understanding of the birds found here Majority of people in this cruise are elderly I think for most people here, bird watching is one of the preferable hobbies post retirement That is evident when you visit the RSPB reserves You’ll see many elderly people there as well Of course, there are a lot of youngsters and families too But these elders are active and energetic when it comes to bird watching Some birds have started following us They are being fed some food – bread, I think That way we can get a closer look at these birds I have started feeling hungry Let me go and check the pantry – the soup looks delicious Let me see if I can get some Shall be back after that We are enjoying the soup Since this is a short cruise, there are no luxuries But it has all basic comforts – there are lots of chairs A small cafeteria sells snacks and beverages like tea and coffee So, this a cruise that offers a range of basic facilities People can enjoy the views from inside – thanks to these windows We are almost back now This view of Liverpool is somewhat different – feels nice We have seen it only from close quarters – whether it is the Liver Building or the other buildings along the waterfront So, this is a different view – another perspective Skua did’nt show up, neither did peregrine or other birds Still, the trip was fantastic
yes! There weren’t any highlights from the birding point of view We saw many terns, gulls – different types of gulls, of course But there were no special species We also so saw many waders such as Dunlin, Whimbrel, Oyster Catcher But…
there were no lifers But the weather was great and we saw many seals – North Atlantic Grey Seals We also saw harbour porpoises We saw plenty of them So, those are today’s highlights Other than that, it was a good day
An extremely good day We enjoyed a lot – just as we would enjoy a cruise From that point of view it was a good experience From the birding point of view it was a bit disappointing trip Yet, altogether it was good experience – a good day out Fabulous soup We hope that you liked this episode If so, please like, comment, share and subscribe We shall meet you again in another episode from another location Until then, thanks and bye!
Bye…
