We have heard that this fort
was built by the Emperor Kadamba Then Adil Shah ruled goa Defeating him, the Portugese government
took over Goa In 1510 AD Portugese took over Goa
and then Portugese used to live here Their soldiers and their people
also used to live here I can say that Shambhaji,
son of Shivaji came here In 16th century As this is an old fort, so
did the government run any restoration program? Maintainence has been done but whether
the government has done it or not, I don’t know Has any part of the fort broken
or fallen in your presence? No,previously it happened, after the
portugese captured Goa Portugese weren’t (fond of) the Hindus
Everyone was Hindu previously,now
90% people are Christian The present goa government, Archeological Department of India
has repaired the fort, and many people visit the fort now a days We wish that it becomes a tourist destination
and even more people visit this fort The fort has been renovated, previously it was not
like this, it was completely broken, later government did some renovation Do you think this fort should be coverted
into a tourist spot? Yes, Definitely, everyone should see the beauty of this place
There is a statue of Christ The King which was brought here in 1927 A feast happens on 27th December, People should visit that.
The statue is made up of marble It once became famous but then the lightning rod
got stolen, since then we only visit the place on 27th December We can say that the fort is spoilt, children come here to drink,
do drugs, or for dating. A lot of illegal things happen there
but no body takes any action Half of the villagers want that the fort be a tourist destination
and government can generate some revenue by selling tickets But other half are afraid that their small and beautiful island
might get spoilt by tourists and people might do drugs and other
illegal things here How did you get to know about the fort? Through friends and relatives, as it’s a beautiful place
for photography Do you mean that people mostly visit this place for sightseeing? Yes mostly for sightseeing, and couples come for dating
and there’s a church nearby so for that as well Outside tourists rarely visit this place
only local people come

  1. You had to ask few questions to the St. Estevam ladies too. i am sure they would have been able to elaborate better has they are told by their mothers and it is kept with them and passed through word of mouth to their daughters.
