The day I first felt the golden sand
between my toes, I knew that something in me had changed forever. I started
dreaming in colours borrowed from the sea. Beautiful, mysterious, wild and, free. My
name is Tara and I am a scuba diving instructor and a marine biologist. The
sea is my home and land is where I come to explore, and so here we are in Goa
a place that has fuelled of the state dreams of the entire country. It is better
to see something once than to hear about it a thousand times. So let’s explore the
place where time doesn’t move from hour to hour, but from mode to moment. Goa is a state where you can drive
end-to-end in a day, you can begin your journey in any direction. As you drive
along you will realise that there is so much to see even a month will be just
short. For now let’s pick a direction, how about up? As the Sun tucked in for the
night it was as if Goa wiped the sleep from
its eyes. The whitehouses and sleepy lanes were woken up by the rhythmic pulse of a
place that’s come alive. Built more than 400 years ago, this
bungalow is one of the most famous spots in Chandor village.
Step inside it as a part of Sterling’s culture trail to time travel back to the
16th century, lit like crystal chandeliers. If it’s a Wednesday there’s only one
place you’ve got to be the famous Anjuna flea market is as much a part of Goa
as the beaches or the Feni. Goa is known for its party vibes, but
there is so much more to the story. Walk off the beaten path and you will
experience the joy of discovery. One minute you’re enjoying Goa’s old town charm the next you’re relaxing in Sterling luxury. The sea is my lifeline, sound my
lullaby. Whenever I travel in the world I make sure that I’m never too far away
from it. My love affair with the ocean will go on for a long time and I will
continue to explore the world as long as I have the sand beneath my feet and the
wind against my hair.
